I have been driving the Tesla Model S for a few months now, and I am astounded by its incredible performance and efficiency. One of the key aspects that I find remarkable is its impressive range when fully charged.
The Tesla Model S Long Range boasts approximately 405 miles of range on a full charge, while the Model S Plaid offers an equally impressive range of about 396 miles. This vast difference in range comes from the different powertrains the models possess, but both allow for an anxiety-free electric vehicle (EV) experience.
During my time with the Model S, I have found that, on average, I get close to the official EPA range. The actual range, of course, depends on various factors such as driving style, weather, and terrain. Here are some of my usage tips for maximizing your Tesla Model S experience:
- Regenerative braking: Enable regenerative braking to its highest setting. This feature slows your vehicle down when you release the accelerator and converts the kinetic energy into electricity, which goes back into the battery, in turn, increasing range.
- Climate control: Limiting the usage of climate control or using seat heaters instead of the cabin heater can enhance your overall range. In addition, using preconditioning while still plugged in lowers the impact on the battery when you set off.
- Drive in ‘Chill Mode’: This mode reduces the acceleration and power of your vehicle, resulting in a smoother drive that consumes less energy.
- Appropriate tire pressure: Maintaining the recommended tire pressure improves your car’s efficiency and ensures optimal range.
- Plan your trips: Use your Tesla’s built-in navigation system to locate Superchargers along your route, allowing you to charge quickly and efficiently during longer journeys.
